Description

Obverse Victoria on ship’s bow.

Reverse Octavian (who received the honorary name “Augustus” in 27 BC) triumphing in the Quadriga, writing “IMP(erator) CAESAR”. The coin was minted to commemorate the victory at the naval battle of Actium (31 BC) over the fleet of Mark Antony and the subsequent land victory over the remnants of the troops of Mark Antony and Cleopatra in Egypt.
