During my studies (Johannes-Gutenberg University, Mainz; German Folklore, Prehistory and Anthropology from 1986 to 1993), I have always been primarily interested in the technical side of historical production methods, especially in the metal sector. However, some of the theses on various working techniques of the time struck me as a bit questionable. In the course of practical experiments, I tested the durability of these theses. This soon gave rise to the possibility of producing high-quality archaeological replicas for museums and private individuals.

Such replicas can usually only be realized if one is familiar with the technical features resulting from the production methods and requirements of the time. Certainly, you could employ the help of a carpenter and tell him to “make me a shield”. However, I then would have to explain to him exactly how precise the shape has to be, which wood he can use, etc. The craftsman alone is simply not familiar with the archaeological fundamentals; the archaeologist, on the other hand, rarely has the manual skills and the means of production to do so.

So my work is twofold: on one hand, the high-quality reconstruction of archaeological realities, on the other hand, the research of production methods of the period, mainly in the field of non-ferrous metal.
