Denarius of Caesar (100 – 44 BC)

Description
Obverse diademed head of Venus to the right.
Reverse right at the edge CAESAR. Aeneas, legendary son of the goddess Venus, carrying his father Anchises on his shoulders and saving the Palladium from the burning Troy. The palladium was a sacred wooden image of the patron goddess of Troy, Athena. The ancestry of the Iulier was derived from Iulus, the son of Aeneas – and thus from Venus herself, so to speak.
