Snake-shaped bracelet from Pompeii, 1st century AD, original made of gold. The tail end of the snake lies wavy against the body. The snake was an important domestic guardian spirit in Roman religion and also played an important role in the widespread worship of the god Asclepius. Standard diameter 6.6 cm.
