Obverse head to the right, AURELIUS CAESAR AUG(usti) PII F(ilius) CO(n)S(ul). Translated: (Marcus) Aurelius Caesar, son of Augustus (Antoninus) Pius, consul.
The reverse HILARITAS faces to the left, with a palm branch and cornucopia. Hilaritas was a Roman deity who was supposed to bring cheerfulness and serenity.
As, bronze, diameter 24 mm, minted in Rome between 140 and 144 AD At that time, Aurelius was still Caesar under Antoninus Pius (138 – 161 AD). Hence the still quite youthful, beardless portrait.
