Description

Obverse head of Antonia to the right, ANTONIA AUGUSTA.

Reverse: TI(berius), CLAUDIUS CAESAR, AUG(ustus), P(ontifex), M(aximus), TR(ibunicia), P(otestate), IMP(erator). Claudius stands in priestly robes to the left, holding a simpulum (ladle of the priests) to the right. In field S(enatus) C(onsulto).

Commemorative coin for Antonia the Younger, his mother, who committed suicide in 37 AD on the orders of Emperor Caligula (her grandson).

Dupondius, brass, diameter 29 mm, minted around 41/42 AD in Rome.
