Description

Roman travel sundial from the Linsenberg in Mainz. Calibrated to “Fori Tiber” in Helvetia. Detailed instructions for use are included. The original made of ivory is in the Mainz State Museum. Diameter 7 cm. Like all sundials, this clock shows the hours of sunshine: These are only about 45 minutes in December, but about 90 minutes in June in Central Europe. Only at the equinox on March 21/September 21 they are 60 minutes long. Replicas in bronze.
