AD. phallus-shaped pendant from Augsburg-Oberhausen, Germany. This symbol occurs in many different forms and was used to protect valuable things (like horses) against the Evil Eye. These pendants were never worn by persons – we have no evidence of burials with phalli inside! They were also used as gifts to the gods. We can find them very often in temple areas. 1st – 3rd century AD. height 4 cm.
